What’s Next?

I’ve been updating our lives here in Albania about every three months since we arrived, and I can’t believe this will be my last update. We only have 4 weeks left in this wonderful place that we’ve called home.

We fell in love with so many things about Albania. The warm, beautiful people, the delicious healthy food, the unbelievable beauty of the mountains and beaches.

We have learned so much about ourselves and others in a place so different from where we come from.

It was hard, and beautiful, exhilarating and sometimes debilitating. Still, I’m so glad we made the leap.

So what’s next?

We are moving to Sweden! A smallish town in southern Sweden surrounded by forests and lakes. And we are so very, very excited.

Having moved internationally once before, now, I think I  have pretty realistic expectations. I know it won’t be perfect, but I’m confident it will be good.

We feel so peaceful about this choice and plan for it to be a longer term situation this time.

We are excited to eat cinnamon buns and lingonberry jam, to run in our half-acre backyard, to take our raft out on the nearby lakes, and to pick berries in the forest.

We can’t wait to explore beautiful Sweden, and the nearby countries of Norway and Denmark where our ancestors came from.

Sweden ticks so many boxes for us. Excellent healthcare, beautiful nature, progressive policies, and reliable public transportation to name a few.

The kids will both be at an international english speaking school in our town this fall. William is so excited to finally be a big kid and go to school.

I said in this post after we had lived here for three months that I felt like we were on a ship in the middle of the ocean, unsure of where we would end up next, trying to takes the storms in stride while enjoying the beauty all around…

Well, now we are steering our ship north, we will begin a new phase of our journey, and can’t wait for this adventure to begin!

Wow, I’m so excited to follow your Swedish journey, as one of your IG followers with Albania on top of my want-to-try-living-in-country a.n.d. a Swede I can’t even believe you’ll end up here at the same time we’re doing all we can to leave for the freedom to homeschool, it’s such a coincidence ☺️

That is so funny! I didn’t realize that the laws in place in Sweden make it difficult to homeschool. That seems unfair to parents who want to choose how to educate their children!

Thank you so much! We are so very excited to live in your beautiful country!

I hope you find a place that suits your lifestyle and values as well ❤️❤️❤️
